Project Description

Alex Cook

Alex Cook is a clinical and sports dietitian specialising in endurance nutrition. She is a regular contributor to several major sporting publications and is a competitive ultra distance runner.

I am a clinical and sports dietitian specialising in endurance nutrition. I have a BSc Sports & Exercise Science (2003) and post grad in Nutrition & Dietetics (2005). I gained my clinical experience working in the NHS and then progressed onto working with the British Army based in Germany mainly focusing on the rehabilitation of personnel and pre-deployment training. I have additionally worked as part of a research team with the Institute of Naval Medicine on the Armed Forces Feeding project looking at feeding patterns across the tri-services. For the last 5 years I have run my own sports nutrition consultancy (Diet360) based in Buckinghamshire working with a variety of clients and teams. My workload also includes supporting promising junior athletes at county and national level.

I am a regular contributor to a number of publications within the sport and fitness industries including Athletics Weekly, Running Fitness,Trail Running magazine, Fit and Well and Ultra magazine. I also work on developing performance recipes for athletes with Chef Kieran Creevy for brands such as The North Face and Adidas.

I am a competitive distance runner with my London based club. I entered the world of Ultra marathons in 2015 and have placed 1st  in all four 50km and 100km races I have competed in to date. Over my running career I have achieved PB’s of 36:10min (10km), 81minute (half marathon) and 3hr10 (marathon). Having a family has stopped me progressing more seriously with my running but I feel having a family, career and still training to a good level gives me a good insight into the challenges of the non-elite but serious athlete. This helps me tailor their nutrition in a realistic but optimal way.

Last year I embarked on working towards my UK Athletics coaching licence. I am due to be a fully qualified coach in September of this year. I currently work as a coaching assistant with my local club predominantly working with the endurance squad.
