As an athlete Helen has been lucky enough to have a long and varied career – she was a late developer and gained her first British senior vest aged 24 and went on to compete many times for Great Britain over 1500m, 3000m, 3000m steeplechase and 5000m on the track. She has also competed for Great Britain in 8 world short course cross country championships and 10 European cross county championships.

Helen’s journey started as a 1500m runner competing in her first Olympics over that distance in 2000 then going on to win a bronze medal in the Manchester Commonwealth games over 1500m. Making the switch to the steeplechase in 2007 in order to attempt to make her second Olympics in 2008, she broke the British record by 7 seconds in the Olympic semi final missing out on the final by 0.10 second.

Competing in a era where drug cheats have had a massive impact on the number of championship medals Helen could have won – she kept on believing in herself and in 2011 – 9 years after her commonwealth medal, she won the European Indoor Championships over 3000m. At the age of 37, she became the oldest winner of the championship and her dream of standing on top of a podium became reality.

Helen is now passionate about sharing her knowledge to help others reach their own potential. Her journey has given her many experiences of training and competing at the highest level and the opportunity to work with the best coaches and physios in the world.
